Explores the origins and symptoms of the folk illness, mal aire, a serious malady that frequently afflicts children living in the Ecuadorian Andes. Mothers and folk healers describe and demonstrate a number of protective strategies and rituals that "clean" the body, ridding it of the evil force. This tape provides insight into the principles underlying Andean ethnomedical beliefs.
