Mario Bick, Professor of Anthropology

Mario Bick began teaching at Bard in 1970. He received his B.A. from Columbia College and his Ph.D. from Columbia University. Prof. Bick's current research and teaching interests include the history of anthropology, race and ethnicity, Jewish identities, the nation-state, colonial society (esp. Africa), systems of etiquette and manners. He has conducted field research in West, East and Central Africa, Brazil and the United States, and his writing includes articles in American Ethnologist, Journal of Human Evolution, Annals of the New York Academy of Sciences, and Revista Brasileira de Sociologia. Prof Bick is additionally affiliated with Latin American and Iberian Studies, African and African Diaspora Studies, and Jewish Studies Programs.
